About PPC

Physician Parent Caregivers, Inc. (PPC) believes that all children and their families are entitled to Quality Health Care. Physicians who are parents of Children and Youth with Special Health Care Needs (CYSHCN) work with children, youth, families and pediatricians to find solutions for the delivery of optimal health care.

CYSHCN are the most vulnerable population affected by poor Quality Health Care, and they completely depend on their parents to obtain health care services for them. Contrary to popular belief, having health insurance does not guarantee that a patient will receive good medical care. Poor care, particularly for CYSHCN, and the struggle to find good care, can have a devastating effect on a child's whole family. The emotional, physical and financial strain of trying to find good care for a very sick child can lead to divorce, bankruptcy, health problems and the neglect of other children. Families lose years of their lives while searching for high Quality Health Care. For CYSHCN, it amounts to losing their childhood.

PPC's objective is to find solutions that will make Quality Health Care the norm for CYSHCN. PPC is in the process of developing a web-based PPC Portal that will help in care coordination for CYSHCN, their families, pediatricians and specialists. Currently, an Internet search takes too long and yields far more information than one can comprehend and process, and from sources that have to be verified. In addition, Internet searches often fail to point us to resources in our very own community. The PPC Portal will be a one-stop information resource for any family that enters the health care system. PPC will conduct a pilot in Montgomery County, Maryland, providing information about resources at three levels: the county, the state and the nation.
